L.I.V.E EL FARO Branch
The Café Bar Carlton is the hub of the community in El Faro with many locals frequenting the bar.
It was this community that read an article in the OLIVE PRESS in 2008
about the children at the Cuidad de Los Niños in Malaga and the registered
Charity LIVE (Los Internacionales Viven en España). The article moved
bar owner Karen Frost to tears and it was then that she realised there
must be something that could be done to help these needy children that
through no fault of their own have lost their parents and their homes.
Karen spoke to few of the locals, mainly Brenda Davey, Joyce Clarke
and Peter Clarke, and they came up with an idea to hold a summer fete
to bring the community together and hopefully raise some money for L.I.V.E
and the orphanage.
A committee was formed and volunteers recruited to help. It was decided
to have stalls and games for the kids and a bbq with all the bars in
the area setting up to provide refreshments. the day was huge success
and raised just over 2,000€. It was from here that the chairman of L.I.V.E
approached the committee about opening a formal branch of the charity
in El Faro.
Since its inception the El Faro branch of LIVE, its committee and the
community of El Faro in Mijas Costa, have raised a total of 14,671€
with more fundraising events planned. None of this would be possible
without the generosity of local businesses, the volunteers and the community
of El Faro as a whole.
